Fall Home maintenance checklist
- Rake leaves before first snowfall.
- Clean out window wells.
- Clean eavestroughs/Gutters AFTER all leaves have fallen and BEFORE hard freeze - Mid November.
- Check roof for any loose or missing shingles - replace as needed.
- Disconnect all garden hoses and ensure no water remains in hose.
- Turn off outdoor spigots from inside home - Mid November before first freeze.
- Cut back perennials.
- Wrap all trees/shrubs with burlap.
- Check exterior of home for cracking/peeling paint.
- Check exterior of home for cracked/loose caulk.
- Clean chimney (if needed).
- Inspect exterior of home for any animal intrusion points i.e. holes/cracks/gaps in home foundation, siding, trim, soffit, and roof. Close off these intrusion points.
- Check windows + doors for air leaks to prevent energy waste.
- Have furnace serviced (if needed).
- Insure emergency heat source is in good working order.
- Deep clean home.
- Install Christmas lightening.
- Turn off AC on thermostat.
- Cover external air-conditioner unit Just before first snowfall - AC must be turned off inside home. - Make sure unit outside IS NOT a heat pump. DO NOT COVER HEAT PUMPS.
- Place Outdoor furniture in storage.
- Prep snow blower or sign up for snow service.
Fall Vehicle Maintenance Checklist
- Install new wiper blades (if needed).
- Insure spare tire is accessible and in good condition.
- Top up washer fluid.
- Check/change air filters (cabin and engine filters).
- Undercoat vehicle.
- Swap winter tires onto vehicle (when air temps drop below 7 degrees C).
- Deep clean inside and outside of vehicle.
- Service vehicle(s) needed per owner’s manual
Quarterly Checklist
- Check fire extinguisher expiration dates - replace or re certify as needed.
- Test garage door auto-reverse feature.
- Check water softener for salt/ replace filters as needed (if applicable).
- Check GFCI outlets.
- Service generator (if applicable).
- Inspect and change furnace filters.
- Inspect exterior accent lighting.
Biannual Checklist (Spring/Fall)
- Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
- Check/replace reverse osmosis water filters (if applicable and as needed).
- Replace refrigerator water filter (if applicable and as needed).
- Test sump pump(s) for proper operation.
- Check for excessive dryer lint buildup.
- Flush hot water heater and remove sediment.
- Operate water heater relief valve and ensure water flows from overflow valve.
